guacamole, from mexico!

I was shopping at our local antique mall when I came across Betty Crocker's Picture Cook Book. What a great find! My mom used to own one but tossed it in a crazy cleaning rampage. Not only does it have the best coffee cake recipe ever, but it offers some neat 50's illustrative inspiration... oh, and insight to the origins an pronunciation of guacamole :)

Butterquick Coffee Cake

sift together...
2 c. flour
1 c. sugar
3 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt

add...
1/3 c. soft butter
1 egg
1 c. milk

in separate bowl...
2 tbsp. soft butter
1/4 c. brown sugar
2 tbsp. flour
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 c. chopped nuts (optional)

beat mixture for 2 min. pour into greased 9" square pan. cover in crunchy topping.

bake at 350 F for 35-40 min.

I loved that cook book! My Mom also had one and I think that book gave me the love of reading and collecting cook books! I dont know what happened to it, but I keep an eye out for it cause if I see it, I'm getting it.
